Frequently Asked Questions
The following frequently asked questions and their answers will help you to get a better understanding of the Opus e-learning courses. Please contact us if you require further information.

How long does the course take?

The course takes approximately 2 hours to complete and allows the learners to complete the course at their own pace. The course is modular and may be undertaken as bite-size learning or as a whole.
What are my computer system requirements for e-learning?

Our e-learning is internet based so as long as you have a PC with a Broadband connection or modem you will be able to access the e-learning. Compatible operating systems include Windows XP, Vista, Windows 2000 and browsers Internet Explorer 6 and compatible versions of Firefox and Netscape.
Please contact us if you are unsure about the compatibility of your computer system.

Will I get a certificate?
Yes. On successful completion of the course, a certificate will be issued.

How do I access the training?
The procedure is simple:
You contact us via e-mail or phone and provide the following information:
Name (Surname and Christian name)
Address
Telephone contact no.
E-mail address
Number of licences you wish to purchase
We will invoice you. As soon as payment is received, we will send you your password (s) and joining instructions for secure log-in.

How long can we access the training for?

One licence is issued for each individual user and is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.

How do we know the training is up to date?
Pharmacists with current medicines experience have developed our training. It is continually updated as guidance and legislation changes. These changes are automatically uploaded so that you will always access the current information (unlike training on DVDs).

How much does it cost?

An annual renewable licence costs £30+VAT per learner. For organisations wishing to purchase large quantities, a sliding discount scale is available. Please contact us for details.

How can I pay?
Currently by cheque or BACS. Shortly we will be introducing a credit card facility on line.

What if I have a question to ask during or after the training?
The benefit of Opus e-learning is that we provide an e-mail back up service by a pharmacist. When you access the training, this entitles you to click on the “Ask the pharmacist” button and a pharmacist will respond to your query.

What does the course cover?
The courses cover all of the important aspects of administration and handling of medication in the care setting following the Skills for Care knowledge sets and the latest CSCI guidance. Please contact us for a copy of the course content.

Is there a different course for care homes and domiciliary care organsiations?

Yes. There are fundamental differences between the handling of medication in these 2 care settings. The National Minimum Standards for each environment are followed in each course.

What is the course format?
The course is a modular programme with learners’ understanding assessed as they progress through the course. The course involves interactive exercises to accommodate all learning styles plus optional voice-over. On completion of the modules, there is a final multiple-choice assessment. Learners will receive feedback on how well they have done.

How can I monitor the learner’s progress?
The Learning Management System (LMS) allows you to easily manage learners, monitor and track their progress and assess the effectiveness of their training, which is essential in medication handling
